Structural studies on the myo-inositol phospholipids of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (var. bovis, strain BCG).

چکیده
During the last few years, the myo-inositol-containing phospholipids have elicited considerable interest from biochemists because of their possible dynamic functions in cell membranes. Parallel with this interest in function has been a concerted attack on the problem of elucidating the detailed structures of these complex substances. In general, the more definitive results have come from the latter investigations. Myo-inositol is present in nature most usually in conjugated form in phospholipids, substances which have the descriptive name of inositides or phosphoinositides (1). Many tissues of plant and animal origin contain phosphatidyl-myo-inositol (I), structurally the simplest member of the group, and a compound

Isolation, Molecular Identification And Genomic Pattern of Mycobacterium Bovis Isolates Collected From Tuberculin-Positive Cattle in Infected Farms of Shiraz
Background: Mycobacterium bovis is the main cause of tuberculosis in cattle. At the global scale and also in Iran, the most frequent currently-in-use method in the detection of infected cattle is tuberculination. Objective: The present study was aimed to improve our genomic knowledge of Mycobacterium bovis population structure in cattle farms of Shiraz. Materials and Methods: Fifty pathologic...

Background: Despite advances in the vaccinology and chemotherapy in the past century, tuberculosis is still responsible for two million deaths every year. Emergence of multi-drug resistant strain and coinfection of TB-HIV make it a serious concern. Treatment and control of tuberculosis is a great health burden in every community. Active tuberculosis in children has very severe consequences espe...
متن کاملRelationships between the structure and the roles of lipoarabinomannans and related glycoconjugates in tuberculosis pathogenesis.
The mechanisms and the molecular basis of the mycobacteria virulence remain obscure. However, recent findings provide evidences that, among the glycoconjugates which compose the mycobacterial envelope, lipoglycans including lipoarabinomannan, lipomannan and phosphatidyl-myo-inositol mannosides, are involved in the major steps of the tuberculosis immunopathogenesis. These steps are the mycobacte...
متن کاملLipoglycans are putative ligands for the human pulmonary surfactant protein A attachment to mycobacteria. Critical role of the lipids for lectin-carbohydrate recognition.
The human pulmonary surfactant protein A (hSP-A) has been implicated in the early capture and phagocytosis of the pathogenic Mycobacterium tuberculosis by alveolar macrophages. In this report, we examined the interaction of alveolar proteinosis patient hSP-A with Mycobacterium bovis BCG, the vaccinating strain, as a model of pathogenic mycobacteria, and Mycobacterium smegmatis, a nonpathogenic ...
متن کاملVaccination with a BCG Strain Overexpressing Ag85B Protects Cattle against Mycobacterium bovis Challenge
Mycobacterium bovis is the causative agent of tuberculosis in cattle but also infects other animals, including humans. Previous studies in cattle have demonstrated that the protection induced by BCG is not complete. In order to improve the protection efficacy of BCG, in this study we overexpressed Ag85B in a BCG Pasteur strain, by using an expression system based on the use of an auxotrophic st...
